Oh, Dallas

Tuesday was an extra special day in our home! It marked one month being puppy parents to the sweetest, snuggliest (yes I think I made that word up), most adorable little guy. His adoption happened so fast that I almost think we were meant to be a family. We met him at a local rescue facility on Saturday April 18th where he was in the middle of an adoption process with another family. Before leaving we filled out an application and when turning it into the staff they asked if we were interested in any of the animals or if we were placing it to have on file. I told her we saw one that we were interested in but he was pending in another adoption. She told us that if the adoption falls through she will call us and we will have the opportunity to adopt him. We went about the rest of our Saturday and only discussed the adoption one more time later that night which ended with Dave saying "Don't get your hopes up babe, there is no way the adoption doesn't go through." I agreed and to bed we went not knowing the next morning our lives were going to change. I woke up and glanced at my phone as I do every morning except on this particular morning I had a missed call and a new voice mail. I listened to the voice mail and grinned from ear to ear while the woman spoke. ((I may have listened to it a few times because of the state of shock I was in.)) I rolled over and woke Dave up saying "We got a call!" We spent the next hour or two discussing if we were ready for the additional responsibility. I know i know, a little late for that huh? It's quite obvious what our decision was. I went and picked him up later that Sunday, since Dave works Sundays, and met him on his break.

We fell in love with the pup but not the name that the rescue organization gave him, Melvin. Yup, Melvin. After a day or so of trying to use it for commands we noticed two things. One- he didn't recognize it and two- he just doesn't look like a Melvin. What does a Melvin look like? Glad you asked..I think something like this:

We agreed we wanted to give him a new name and chose Dallas. Dave is a HUGE Dallas Cowboys fan (personally I don't care to choose teams when it comes to sports- I just don't follow them or see the point in getting upset over something I cannot control. I do plenty of that in my own life I don't need the additional stress.) and being that the pup came from Texas we thought it fit perfectly.

I have had a couple realizations since that first Sunday - one being that you're never really ready for anything. You may be able to prepare yourself as much as you can but there is still always going to be the initial shock of change. There was so much change involved that we could have made a big ole bowl of change salad and fed it to a hundred people. We all have adapted as best as we could and each day is one day closer to a new normalcy. Dallas is still trying to adapt to his new surroundings but loves to meet all of the pups in the complex and stare down all the kitties too! He loves to
chew...everything if you're not watching. He doesn't like car rides unless in my lap, have I told you he thinks he small?

To celebrate 1 month as a family we took him out for a little treat! He loved it!

Until next time loves!
